Dear FUNimation: Here's All My Money. Seriously, Take It.

Holy moley! FUNimation just announced a slew of new acquisitions at Anime Expo and thus has officially gained ownership of my wallet. Among the shows that they announced are three shows that rank among my favorite anime ever. Those shows being…

Shakugan no Shana II. I couldn’t believe this one. After years of fans pestering them when they’re gonna license the second season, it looks like they finally did! While this season of the popuplar Shana franchise does get off to a rocky start, it eventually turns into something that’s totally awesome and worth hobbling through the early episodes for.

To Aru Majutsu no Index. Another “finally!” – this show is another fan favorite that many thought may get overlooked by US anime companies. It’s got some pacing issues but overall the story and production value are nothing short of excellent.

To Aru Kagaku no Railgun. My second favorite anime series of 2009 got licensed. Y-E-S! This side story to Index is a thrilling ride from the get go. It hits a few bumps in the road, but ultimately turns out better than its predecessor.

Obviously, these three are the titles I’m most excited about, and I will be buying them all. Other notable licenses they announced are Shiki, Moyashimon, Kuroshitsuji 2, the Black Lagoon OVAs, Darker than Black 2, and Sengoku Basara Two. Oh, and they also announced a bunch of Geneon rescues. Click the first link above to see the full list.

Being this is FUNimation, it would probably be fair to expect that each of these titles will be getting a dub and will be released on Blu-ray. Needless to say, I’m super excited.

With all these amazing license announcements as of late, could this mean the US anime industry is finally getting back on its feet? I’d like to think so.

  1. I’m guessing you are really thrilled about this.

But here’s a question, do you personally watched the Index series yourself?

Oh yeah, PLEASE get Johnny Yong Bosch, Cristina Valenzuela, and Hynden Walch to voice Accelerator, Misaka Mikoto, and Komoe-sensei respectfully please.

  2. Yup. I watched both Index and Railgun and loved them both. :)

  3. By the way, if To Aru Majutsu no Index and Railgun is really the “secret title” that Bang Zoom! is talking about, this is the dub cast I’m thinking:

James Arnold Taylor or Vic Mignogna-Touma Kamijou
    Kate Higgins-Index
    Cristina Valenzuela- Mikoto Misaka
    Wendee Lee- Kuroko Shirai
    Johnny Yong Bosch- Accelerator
    Hynden Walch- Komoe-sensei
    Kirk Thornton- Heaven Canceler
    Steve Blum- Stiyl Magnus
    Kari Wahlgren- Aisa Himegami
Michelle Ruff- Kaori Kanzaki, Aiho Yomikawa
Liam O’Brien- Aureolus Izzard, Ao Amai
Stephanie Sheh- Maika Tsuchimikado, Hyoka Kazakiri, Last Order
    Doug Erholtz-Motoharu Tsuchimikado
Crispin Freeman- Mitsuki Unabara, Aleister Crowley, Touya Kamijou
    Yuri Lowenthal- Pierce Aogami
    Laura Bailey- MISAKA
    Karen Strassman-Sherry Cromwell, Kikyou Yoshikawa

If not, then this is the top ten VA I would really like to see:

    1) Johnny Yong Bosch-Accelerator
    2) Cristina Valenzuela- Misaka Mikoto
    3) Hynden Walch- Komoe-sensei
    4) Vic Mignogna- Touma Kamijou
    5) Monica Rial- Index
    6) Jerry Jewell- Aleister Crowley
    7) Todd Haberkorn- Motoharu Tsuchimikado
    8) Kari Wahlgren- Aisa Himegami
    9) Steve Blum- Stiyl Magnus
    10) Ruiko Saten- Lara Jill Miller
