What OtakuAnthony bought this week January 13th

Xam’d Lost Memories Blu-ray Holiday Bundle

Plot Synopsis: “When a young boy on a peaceful island becomes the victim of a terrorist attack, he transforms into Xam’d, a powerful mecha capable of extreme power. Now he must discover the depth of his power and the role he plays in a world where metal and rock meet flesh, desire, and destiny.”

I wanted to add this show to my collection for some time but I did not feel like getting the BD sets and even when sales came around for them I was always short of money.  Well TRSI had both sets in a bundle on sale last month but they finally shipped out this week.

Xam’d Lost Memories BD is available from Right Stuf

The DVD set is also available from Right Stuf

Yamada’s First Time/ B Gata H Kei DVD/BD Complete LE

Plot Synopsis: “OMG! There’s this girl at school, Yamada, who wants to make like a hundred sex friends. She totally thinks she can devirginize one hundred different boys! Can you believe that? That’s like every boy in the school. Who does she think she is? I heard from my friend’s neighbor’s cousin’s lab partner that Yamada’s never even been kissed. Oh. My. God. I would totally die. That’s like burn all your makeup and shave off your eyebrows embarrassing. I can’t even think about it.

Today at lunch I saw Yamada flirting, like for reals flirting, with that geek Kosuda. You know the guy. Photography club, no muscles, boring face, kind of reminds you of a black-and-white movie. Super lame. If Yamada can’t even make the sex with him, she’ll never score a hundred cherry boys. She needs to take like Sex Ed or something because I heard she can’t give it away!”

I watched this series as it aired via fansubs in 2010 and I never in my wildest dreams thought that a legit release would end up in R1.  Well when I found out that the series was licensed I was overjoyed with relief.

Otaku in Review Podcast – We Haven't Gotten to a Sex Scene… Yet

Scott & Jon talk about technology (again), with Jon being especially impatient about not getting his iPhone 4 yet. Jon’s playing the extremely long dating sim Kira Kira and hasn’t gotten any yet. Scott states his qualms with the B Gata H Kei finale and the possibilities of why the writers have been receiving death threats. Also, Jon talks about the totally awesome shooter game Deathsmiles (check out his review).

K-ON!! has been confirmed to be 26 episodes. Where will the series be headed in its third and (possibly) final season? We speculate in this episode.

And of course, we talk about all of the totally freakin’ awesome license announcements that came out of Anime Expo 2010.

Janai's Spring 2010 Anime Preview

We’re about 2-3 weeks into the Spring 2010 anime season, and I’m quite impressed with the number of good shows that are airing. Right now, I am watching 9 shows from this season and plan to add a few more to the list as well. Unfortunately, a number of the shows I’m watching this season are shows that many people are vehemently opposing. This should come as no surprise, as I usually tend to love the shows that aren’t so popular. Anyway, on to the list…

Angel Beats!

Here’s one show from this season that I can actually agree with most people about! Being produced by Key and Visual Art’s, many people were expecting another Clannad or Kanon. I thought for sure that moe haters would be trashing this one almost immediately. I’m glad to say I was wrong.

Angel Beats!, after 2 episodes, seems to have a fairly rich story. Taking place in a fantasy world where everyone is apparently dead, the characters are constantly fighting against this one girl known as Tenshi (“Angel”). Not much has been revealed yet as to why Tenshi is such a threat, but I expect these details to be revealed later on.

The show is beautifully animated. Not being made by Kyoto Animation, I wasn’t expecting animation of this quality. The character designs are the same as what you see in most Key anime, and many people seem to dislike their character designs. However, that’s no reason to not give this show a chance. If you’ve hated Key’s works in the past, give Angel Beats! a try. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Otaku in Review Podcast – Oh God He's Been in Akikan!

This week, Scott and I go more in depth with the shows we’re watching this season, now that we’ve seen at least 2 episodes of most shows. We also discuss FUNimation streaming the noitaminA anime block (House of Five Leaves and The Tatami Galaxy) and why streaming anime sucks.
