Stuff OtakuAnthony bought this week April 29

Aishiteruze Baby GN 2

Plot Synopsis: “Kippei is busy trying to become Kokoro’s boyfriend and slips back into his irresponsible ways. He oversleeps and doesn’t have time to make Yuzuyu’s lunch. Even worse, he spends an afternoon with Kokoro, forgetting to pick up Yuzuyu at kindergarten. Yuzuyu feels like she has become a burden to Kippei, so she decides to walk home by herself… and ends up disappearing!

For some reason last week I did not order the second volume of this so I went and ordered it.

Aishiteruze Baby is available to purchase from Amazon.com

Card Captor Sakura Omnibus 1

Plot Synopsis: “Fourth grader Sakura Kinomoto finds a strange book in her father’s library – a book made by the wizard Clow to store dangerous spirits sealed within a set of magical cards. But when Sakura opens it up, there is nothing left inside but Kero-chan, the book’s cute little guardian beast… who informs Sakura that since the Clow cards seem to have escaped while he was asleep, it’s now her job to capture them!”

While I am a fan of the magical girl genre, I have never read the manga that this series is based on.  So I though I would get the first Omnibus and give it a read.

Card Captor Sakura Omnibus 1 is available for purchase from RightStuf

Kirby’s Epic Yarn

Game Description: ” Kirby’s Epic Yarn is a 2D platformer for Wii that blends classic Kirby gameplay with new abilities, functionality and more. Kirby’s first console platform game since the Nintendo 64 days, Kirby’s Epic Yarn introduces an amazing new look based on animated yarn and a world of cloth and textiles. The creative approach is woven directly into the gameplay and allows the ever-morphing Kirby to take on a variety of new forms. It’s a one-of-a-kind platformer that lets players explore high and low for hidden objects, experience fun adventure and even join with a second player in a co-op play mode. “

I rented this game a few months ago and I fell in love with it.  However, I wanted to wait for a good price before I went and since Amazon.com had a good price the other day I went and ordered it.

Choose from four angels with unique demonic familiars and battle against a storm of enemies pouring out of Hell’s gates! The unique left and right shooting mechanic of Deathsmiles will keep you on your toes as you dodge and weave through complex enemy fire, beautifully crafted by the modern masters of shmups, CAVE.

Like with Kirby’s Epic Yarn I rented this game many months ago but for one reason or another I was not in the market to buy it, but I was able to purchase it for a good price.

Otaku in Review Podcast – We Haven't Gotten to a Sex Scene… Yet

Scott & Jon talk about technology (again), with Jon being especially impatient about not getting his iPhone 4 yet. Jon’s playing the extremely long dating sim Kira Kira and hasn’t gotten any yet. Scott states his qualms with the B Gata H Kei finale and the possibilities of why the writers have been receiving death threats. Also, Jon talks about the totally awesome shooter game Deathsmiles (check out his review).

K-ON!! has been confirmed to be 26 episodes. Where will the series be headed in its third and (possibly) final season? We speculate in this episode.

And of course, we talk about all of the totally freakin’ awesome license announcements that came out of Anime Expo 2010.

Game Review: Deathsmiles

Japanese shoot-em-up (“shmup”) games are often notorious for being insanely difficult. In a world where shmups such as Ikaruga and Castle of Shikigami challenge the player to an extreme level of frustration, it’s refreshing to see Deathsmiles. While Deathsmiles is certainly no pushover, it offers hours of fun gameplay across various degrees of difficulty so that players of all skill levels can enjoy it.

Deathsmiles takes place in the fictional world of Gilverado. A group of young girls have been trapped inside this magical land for several years. Jitterbug, one of the girls’ father, is obsessed with finding a way back to the real world, and in doing so, he’s accidentally opened the gates of hell! Demons are pouring into Gilverado, and it’s up to the girls to stop them.

Of course, if you’re playing this game, there’s a good chance you don’t really care about the story; you simply just want to blow stuff up. So let’s move onto the gameplay…

Deathsmiles allows you to choose from up to 5 characters, each of which have their own distinct bullet patterns, movement properties, and familiars. Your familiar is a small creature that follows you where you go and provides some extra firepower to help you out. All the characters seem fairly balanced, and they are all very playable, even for beginners.
