Otaku in Review Podcast – We Love Squid Girl
It’s a quick episode this week with not much going on. Scott and I discuss the video games we’ve been playing, including my hopeless addiction to Borderlands, which may be the closest thing to a WRPG I ever play.
We talk about Media Blasters’new initiative to launch anime DVD/BD rental kiosks and speculate on how well they may work out. There’s yet another Haruhi game coming out, this time for PS3 and PSP; so if you’re fluent in Japanese, don’t hesitate to import it. K-ON! continues to be awesome by winning awards and stuff. Section23 picks up a bunch of new licenses for the moe-loving crowd.
After that’s all said and done, we talk a bit more about the Fall anime shows we’ve been watching, including how surprisingly great Squid Girl is.
The ConBlog: New York Anime Festival 2010
In September 2009, Reed Exhibitions, the company that brings us New York Comic Con (NYCC) and New York Anime Festival (NYAF), announced that in 2010 they would be combining both conventions into one super-huge mega-con. This news was met with mixed reactions. Some were delighted to hear that they would be able to get into both cons with only one admission – two cons for the price of one. Others were fearful that this was basically an excuse to “eliminate” NYAF, and that Reed would end up focusing mostly on the NYCC portion, while NYAF got “shoved into the basement.” Unfortunately, our worst fears came true, and as a result this year’s NYAF was far less enjoyable and far more frustrating.
But before getting into all that, let’s talk about the panels that took place…

Part 1 will be released on 1/25/11, Part 2 is coming on 3/29/11, and Part 3 will street sometime in May 2011. Part 1 will include a clear slip case and 5 collectible postcards. Some new dub cast announcements were made: Mela Lee will take the role of Erika, Brian Beacock will be Walker, and Steve Blum will be Kyohei.
R.O.D. (Read Or Die) Blu-ray will be available on 1/18/11 and includes all 26 TV episodes and the 3 OVA episodes. The box set will mimic the R2 box art and feature a 48-page booklet… all for the insane price of $159.98. Yes, really.

More HTT is All Right With Me
Did you hear?
Sure, they’re milking the series for all it’s worth. And sure, the Type-A otaku are screaming “WHYYYYY?”
But who cares? They’re making a K-ON! movie.
No details have been announced yet, so we don’t know what kind of direction the movie will take. All I can say is I hope it has lots of music. And I hope they don’t call it K-ON!!!
Hit the jump for the TV spot.
