Negima! Magister Negi Magi GN Omnibus 1-2

Plot Synopsis (from GN Omnibus 1): “Follow the adventures of Negi Springfield, a fresh magic academy graduate, as he starts his new job as a teacher at an all-girls high school. Can he balance his teaching duties while pursuing his dream to become a great wizard like his father?”

I hve the original Del Ray volumes of Negima! but only up to volume 8.  I decided that it would be easier for me to go after the omnibuses instead of going after the rest of the volumes via singles.  Plus I wanted to see the new translation.

Dance in the Vampire Bund GN Volume 10

Plot Synopsis: “Lord Ivanovic is dead. Akira and the members of Beowulf have averted all-out war with the three vampire clans and prevented the Bund’s nuclear reactor from going critical and raining down radioactive fallout across the entire Kantou region. In response to the repeated assasination attempts on her life, Mina Tepes’ policies have taken an overly hardline approach, if not erratic and unpredictable. When the truth finally comes out, there will be hell to pay.”

I had this pre-ordered this volume back in July during the last Seven Seas sale at Rightstuf and it finally shipped out this week.

Queen’s Blade 2: The Evil Eye BD Complete Series

Plot Synopsis: “The end of the Queen’s Blade has come, and only the strongest remain. Leina, Tomoe, and the rest of the finalists take up residence in Gynos, the Queen’s Capital. Each girl is paired up in a duel, and friends are forced to fight each other with their lives on the line. When the smoke clears, who will be crowned queen?”

I had pre-ordered this off Amazon since they had it cheaper than Rightstuf even on its weekly sales that it is usually on.  However, I had to wait longer than those who had ordered this off of Right Stuf who got it sooner.

Anime Review: Midori Days

High school delinquent Seiji Sawamura is desperate to have a girlfriend, especially after being rejected by 20 girls as of late. He’s afraid that he will end his life with his right hand as his only companion. Apparently, that doesn’t change when one day when he wakes up and discovers that his right hand has become a girl named Midori Kasugano, who confesses that she has had a crush on him for the last three years.

Plot:

If the plot synopsis above sounds creepy, do not panic.  The story is not as creepy as it may sound.  It would seem easy to make a story about a girl who becomes a dude’s right hand perverted and sleazy, but Midori Days take a different approach to the scenario above.  Instead of going the ecchi route, we get a touching if not humorous story about a misunderstood male student who everyone seems to be fearful of, but only because they do not understand that he is not like what he may be seen as.

While the show is part of the romance genre, I would be remiss if I did not mention that this is a harem show.  While this is a harem show, Midori Days is in some ways a bit different from most shows in the harem genre out there today.  One of the big differences from most of the harem shows out there is that unlike most male lead that show up in the harem genre.  Seji is not milquetoast and actually has a backbone.  Seji is a misunderstood delinquent who while most people assume that he fights because he enjoys to, he only fights to protect those who cannot defend themselves from others.  Seji is quite the nice person but is feared because of his fighting.  The fact that Seji has some personality, the way he does things explains why he does have several females who like him and want to be with him.  Of course, one trait Seji does share one big trait that most harem leads have and that is pretty obvious to the fact that most of the girls are in love with him.

Media Blasters licenses Bakuman anime

Media Blasters announced today that they have licensed the anime series Bakuman. The first DVD will be released in November, containing the first seven episodes and an English dub. The manga that the anime is based on comes from the creative team behind Death Note, but don’t let that get your hopes up. It tells the story of a middle school student, Moritaka Mashiro, who is persuaded into teaming up to draw manga by a classmate who is impressed with his drawing abilities.

Odd timing for an announcement considering Anime Expo is the end of this week, but then I’m pretty sure Media Blasters doesn’t go to conventions anyway.

Media Blasters licensed Squid Girl… apparently

The solicitations for Media Blasters’ September releases came out today. If you take a look, you’ll notice that they apparently licensed Squid Girl and just didn’t bother making an actual announcement. The solicitation lists the following info:

Squid Girl, Part 1 – 150 minutes – $24.99 – 9/27/11

  • Japanese with English Sub/Dub (2.0)
  • Contains episodes 1–6
  • Loaded with extras!

So apparently they’re planning on dubbing it as well. Odd that they never thought to mention this beforehand, but whatever, we’re getting Squid Girl and that’s all that matters.

What OtakuAnthony bought this week June 3rd

Kanokon OVA DVD

Plot Synopsis: “With the arrival of summer and the school break, Chizuru, Kota, and the rest of their friends are lazily enjoying the warm weather. Chizuru flirts with Kota, Kota gets embarrassed, and Nozomu gets in the way. Tayura pines after Akane, Akane rebuffs Tayura, and a sexy good time ensues. The status quo isn’t quite the same since the fox snared her prey, but the timeless boy-meets-girl tale lingers on.”

I am not sure why I bought this.  I haven’t watched all of Kanokon yet so I guess this is just me being a completionist.

Kanokon OVA DVD is available from RightStuf
