Oh! Edo Rocket Part 1 and Part 2
Plot Synopsis (from part 1): “Welcome to Edo, a town where the finer things in life are strictly forbidden. You can’t have fun, you can’t earn money, and you certainly can’t strap a princess to a rocket and blast her into space – but none of that will stop Seikichi. Making things explode is his calling, and if the little man with the big rocket can send his lady to the moon, the city of Edo just might become bearable again.”
I watched the first episode of Oh! Edo Rocket last year and I enjoyed what I saw. Well TRSI during their twelve days of Christmas sale had both parts of the show on sale and I just could not pass this up.
Oh! Edo Rocket Part 1 and Part 2 are available from Right Stuf

My Bride is a Mermaid Part 1 and Part 2
Plot Synopsis: “Nagasumi’s in hot water after a beautiful, young mermaid named Sun saves him from drowning. The deep-sea sweetheart’s dad is a merman Yakuza prone to executing anyone who learns his family’s scaly secret! Luckily, there’s a catch – if Nagasumi agrees to marry Sun, he just might avoid sleeping with the fishes!
Of course, the honeymoon ends before it even begins when Nagasumi finds his life flooded with gilled gangsters looking out for their boss’s little girl. The kid’s definitely in over his head, but there’s no denying the mermaid’s allure – Nagasumi’s hooked and Sun’s ready to come ashore!”
I rented the first DVD of this show last year and I liked the first episode enough that I wanted to add the series to my collection. Like with Oh! Edo Rocket above Right Stuf had the two parts on sale so I figured now would be a great time to purchase the series.

The complete series is also available.
Stuff I Bought This Week – April 22nd
My Bride is a Mermaid – Part 1
Plot Synopsis: “Nagasumi’s in hot water after a beautiful, young mermaid named Sun saves him from drowning. The deep-sea sweetheart’s dad is a merman yakuza prone to executing anyone who learns his family’s scaly secret! Luckily there’s a catch – if Nagasumi agrees to marry Sun, he just might avoid sleeping with the fishes!
I’ve been meaning to buy this one for a while. I had heard that it was pretty funny, and that Funimation had done a great job with the dub, so it had caught my interest. I ended up finally buying it because I found it for a really great price. Having watched some of it, I can say that it is as funny as people told me, and is definitely worth looking into if you’re looking for a great comedy series.

The Tower of Druaga – Part 2: The Sword of Uruk
Plot Synopsis: “Scaling the sixty treacherous floors of the Tower of Druaga is no game. Infested with slimes, dragons, and tentacled beasts, very few survive its twisting corridors and lethal traps. Against all odds, Jil led his band of climbers to victory against the demon Druaga – but the fabled Blue Crystal Rod remains out of reach.
To claim the mysterious treasure, a merciless enemy of god-like power must be defeated. Brave and true, the young Guardian Jill raises his shield to play the role of hero, battling his way up to the level where his destiny awaits.”
About a month or so ago I ended up buying the first Tower of Druaga set because I found it for really cheap (I buy a lot of things for this reason). It drew me in with the first episode, which was a humourous send-up of fantasy tropes and cliches, culminating in a battle reminescent of Gurren Lagann. I wasn’t expecting the whole thing to be like that, but the rest of the series does manage to mix in enough humour to keep things entertaining throughout. Since I liked it, I decided to buy the rest, which I also found for a low price.
Otaku in Review Podcast – Bankruptcy is Bad, Toradora is Good
This week we cover general news and goings on. Scott Pilgrim, also known as “that awesome movie that every geek except me has seen,” is apparently awesome (And I really want to see it). Some awesome (or creepy, depending on how you look at it) news in the field of 2D love as we discuss Love Plus + and its use of augmented reality barcodes (whatever that means). Hatsune Miku is jumping overseas with her first U.S. “concert” that of course is on the opposite side of the country.
Drama’s a-brewing with FUNimation again, with what they did with the second ED sequence to My Bride is a Mermaid. Urban Vision might not be doing so hot, or maybe they’re just restructuring as they say? MangaGamer’s having troubles with Koihime Musou, but you should still buy it. NIS America details their upcoming releases of Toradora!, Persona: Trinity Soul, Pandora Hearts, and some generic foxgirl deity show. And the best news of all, MITSUDOMOE SEASON 2! (Scott was not amused by my enthusiasm).
Not all the news was good though, as two companies in Japan recently filed for bankruptcy. Hear our thoughts on this week’s episode.
