At their Anime Expo panel today, NIS America announced they had acquired the series Dororon Enma-Kun Meeramera. No release date or format has been mentioned.

NIS America licenses Katanagatari and Arakawa under the Bridge

Two new series were added to the anime section of Nis America’s website today.

The first of these is Katanagatari. Based on a series of light novels, it tells the story of a swordsman and a strategist who go on a quest to collect twelve legendary swords. The series began airing in January of last year, with one double length episode airing each month until the series ended in December. NISA’s first boxset will contain the first six episodes of the series.

The other series they’ve acquired is SHAFT’s Arakawa under the Bridge. It tells the story of a self proclaimed “winner at life”, Ko Ichinomiya, who becomes caught up with a self proclaimed “Venusian citizen”, Nino. NIS America’s release will feature all 13 episodes of the first season.

Both series will be released subtitled only on DVD/Blu-Ray combo packs in July, marking NISA’s first Blu-Ray releases. Both will come in premium box sets with a bonus artbook.

Otaku in Review Podcast – Bankruptcy is Bad, Toradora is Good

...especially when Taiga gets angry.

This week we cover general news and goings on. Scott Pilgrim, also known as “that awesome movie that every geek except me has seen,” is apparently awesome (And I really want to see it). Some awesome (or creepy, depending on how you look at it) news in the field of 2D love as we discuss Love Plus + and its use of augmented reality barcodes (whatever that means). Hatsune Miku is jumping overseas with her first U.S. “concert” that of course is on the opposite side of the country.

Drama’s a-brewing with FUNimation again, with what they did with the second ED sequence to My Bride is a Mermaid. Urban Vision might not be doing so hot, or maybe they’re just restructuring as they say? MangaGamer’s having troubles with Koihime Musou, but you should still buy it. NIS America details their upcoming releases of Toradora!, Persona: Trinity Soul, Pandora Hearts, and some generic foxgirl deity show. And the best news of all, MITSUDOMOE SEASON 2! (Scott was not amused by my enthusiasm).

Not all the news was good though, as two companies in Japan recently filed for bankruptcy. Hear our thoughts on this week’s episode.

“Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure” Ranks High On the Cheese-O-Meter, But I Still Love It

I saw it at a convention on sale for $30. It looked kinda cute, and since I’m not very good at resisting the urge to buy JRPGs, I went ahead and bought it. It was Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure, a game that stays true to its name. There is indeed lots of music, and it’s also very cheesy. And that’s why I love it.

Rhapsody was originally released for the Sony PlayStation in 2000 (in the US). While the game (and its entire series) has seen much success in Japan, the game hasn’t done so well overseas. This is mostly due to the large number of cutscenes, weak gameplay, and its perception as a “girl’s game.” Despite this, the Nintendo DS remake of the game managed to make its way overseas in 2008. There are notable differences between the two versions, of which I’ll go into more detail later on. Primarily, this review will focus on the PS1 version of the game, which is the version I played.

Toradora's Packaging is Amazing (a.k.a. BUY TORADORA Part 3)

I don’t usually go out of my way to promote DVD sales like this, but Toradora! is an exception. Besides, I haven’t made a fanboy post on this blog in a while.

As if I didn’t already give you enough reasons to buy Toradora!, here are some photos that Zac Bertschy of ANN posted. This is the packaging for the limited edition version of the first box set. NIS America will be releasing it on July 6, 2010. If you want to pre-order your copy (and you should), click here!
