Manga Review: Sora No Otoshimono
Odds are you have seen and read this series through. It has figures, figmas, and plenty of other tie-in merchandise. It has glowing reviews on other blogs, and a reasonably cool English name. Heaven’s Lost Property. Seriously, how cool is that? HEAVEN itself lost something, and there should be plenty of either fun or awesomeness while they try to get whatever it is back.
And here is the problem-I read it, and, well, it seems that the few glowing reviews got some sort of jewel encrusted gold book that printed money and gently massaged their back while supplying them with free concubines. I, on the other hand, got a poorly written, poorly executed book that tries to appeal to emotions and be a love drama and an action book at the same time.
Probably the reason I really dislike this is because I was so disappointed by it. People were loving these glowing great moments that simply weren’t there.
Well, I’d better start with the plot and characters, which is a technical term for saying I want to type lots of words without actually saying anything useful.
Plotwise, it’s about a boy by the name of… screw it, wikipedia, help me out here. Tomoki Sakurai is a young man whose motto is “Peace and quiet is the best”, but he finds it difficult when he has to put up with his next door neighbor with a killer karate chop, Sohara Mitsuki; Eishiro Sugata, an eccentric scientist bent on discovering the “New World”; and Mikako Satsukitane, a borderline sadist. One day, while he was witnessing a strange anomaly in the sky, a UMA (Unidentified Mysterious Animal) falls from it. What falls from the sky is an Angeloid named Ikaros, who soon becomes Tomoki’s servant. From then on, more Angeloids come to him, and with this, he finds himself struggling for his peace and quiet, but at the same time finds pleasant things the Angeloids bring him.

ANNCast – Viewers Like You V: Battle for the Planet of the Apes

Zac Bertschy of ANN invited Scott Spaziani (from Otaku in Review, the podcast I co-host) and myself to come on ANNCast and talk about the upcoming season. The “season of sequels,” as many people are calling it, is looking pretty promising for me – mostly because I’m a fan of many of the shows getting sequels. Even Zac shows optimism by expressing some interest in the lineup. And for some reason, Scott continues to be amazed by my pronunciation of Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai.
We also talk about New York Anime Festival briefly, which Scott & I will both be at next weekend, and are very much looking forward to.
For more of my thoughts on the upcoming season, check out my contribution to Project Haruhi’s Fall Preview.

Otaku in Review Podcast – Fall 2010 Preview
The Fall season is almost upon us. In this episode, Scott & I take a look at the upcoming anime. Two of my favorite ecchi shows are getting second seasons, plus we’re finally seeing some new mecha shows, and a slice-of-life drama that sounds like it could have KEY potential. Hear our thoughts on each of them in this episode.
In the news, we cover recent happenings related to Valkyria Chronicles, K-ON!!, and Atlus. Miyazaki is nominated for another (well-deserved) award, Hayate the Combat Butler gets a live-action series that doesn’t look too promising, and FUNimation rescues the Disgaea anime that nobody likes (but I do).
Oh, and I make fun of Scott’s terrible pronunciation of “shoujo.”
As always, credit goes to Chartfag for the chart and info.
