What OtakuAnthony bought this week September 16th

Sailor Moon GN 1

Plot Synopsis: “Usagi Tsukino is a normal girl – until she meets up with Luna, a talking cat, who tells her that she is really Sailor Moon! As Sailor Moon, Usagi must fight evil and enforce justice in the name of the moon and the mysterious Moon Princess.”

I never read the initial release of Sailor Moon when it was being released by Mixx/Tokyopop but I have always wanted to read the manga in one way or another.  I had ordered this volume way back when it starting coming out for pre-order and went ahead and got it.

Codename: Sailor V GN 1

Plot Synopsis: “Minako Aino is a 13-year-old middle school student whose calm, normal life changes when she encounters a talking white cat with a crescent moon on its forehead. The cat introduces himself as Artemis and claims that Minako has the power to transform into the hero Sailor V!”

Same case as with the Sailor Moon listed above.

Taisho Baseball Girls

Plot Synopsis: “1925. Six years since the end of the Great War, four years since women were allowed to join political associations, and one year since Emperor Hirohito assumed the throne. Japan is a nation re-inventing itself, swept by wave after wave of wars, disasters and political unrest. War looms in China, males over the age of 24 are about to receive the right to vote, and a strange new type of school uniform called the “sailor suit” is being introduced. But at least the national pastime, baseball, remains bound by tradition, the exclusive realm of men and boys – until now.

When a local player arrogantly states that girls should become housewives instead of going to school, teenage firebrands Koume and Akiko respond by forming their own baseball team. It’s shocking. It’s scandalous. And yet, in a nation in which almost anything seems suddenly possible, it may just be the start of something greater than any nine girls can imagine.”

I watched the first episode of this series some time ago and I enjoyed what I saw and I was able to get a copy at Amazon.com for almost half off.

Shin Chan Season 3 DVD Part 2

Plot Synopsis: “Shin chan: wholesome entertainment for fans of such important topics as superheroes, hot babe chicks, bunny abuse, boobies, booze, stuff, unusual Hispanic men, dogs, dead pigs, psychic abilities, and several of the most popular bodily functions.”

I love Shin Chan so I had ordered both sets during the last Funimation sale at RightStuf and the 2nd part of the set was shipped earlier in the week.

Otaku in Review Podcast – I Finally Out-Weeaboo'd Janai

This is Scott 10 years from now

We start off this episode talking about my recent trip to Disney, along with me starting to watch Ah! My Goddess. I have FINALLY finished Kira Kira (see my review of the game), and so I now actually have time to start watching anime again! We also talk about Evangelion 2.22 quite a bit (spoiler warning – blame Scott) and then move on to the huge chock of news from the past few weeks. Oh, and Scott loves body pillows – a guilty pleasure that I actually have no interest in (hence the title of this episode).

We also make a heartfelt farewell to Satoshi Kon, who recently passed away, in this episode – his genius will surely be missed.

Otaku in Review Podcast – You Got Brad Rice'd!

This week we got Brad Rice, Editor-in-Chief of Japanator.com to come on the show to discuss his article which he wrote in response to Eric Sherman’s article “Anime – R.I.P.” (yes, we’re still talking about that). Also on this episode, I talk a bit about the Starcraft II Beta and some  of the shows I watched recently, including Planetes and Taisho Baseball Girls.
