What OtakuAnthony bought this week September 2nd

Kampfer: Complete Collection DVD:

Plot Synopsis: “Waking up transformed into a beautiful girl might be the stuff of some guys’fantasies, but when the suddenly effeminatized Natsuru is informed by a stuffed tiger that he’s now a Kampfer, a mystical fighter who has to fight other Kampfers in female form, his life becomes a living nightmare!

Putting aside the obvious “plumbing” issues, Natusru’s best childhood friend turns out to swing the other way and SHE has a crush on his new female body. Not complex enough? Natsuru’s school has separate sections for boys and girls, so he and she are now double enrolled. The rumor-mill has it that he’s dating herself. And there are other Kampfers attending the school who want to take her out, and he’s not sure which ones mean “on a date” and which ones mean “permanently.” Oh, and did we mention that some Kampfers use swords and gun?! Hormones, fists, and other body parts will fly as the daring, new gender-blender defender must become a contender or die!”

Rented the series some time ago, enjoyed what little I saw so I saw that Amazon.com had it new for cheap.

Toradora! GN 1:

Plot Synopsis: “Ryuji Takasu has learned the hard way that appearances can be deceiving. Despite his inwardly sweet personality, his unintentionally sharp gaze and aggressive features give him the air of a delinquent thug, putting his chances at making new friends, let alone a girlfriend, next to zero.

It’s Ryuji’s first day in high school and it seems as if things are looking up. He gets to sit in between his only friend, Yusaku, and more importantly, the girl he’s secretly crushing on, Minori Kushieda. But just when he thinks the stars are aligned in his favor, he unwittingly crosses the most feared girl in school, Taiga Aisaku, making her his arch enemy. To top it off, Taiga has moved in right next door to Ryuji and happens to be Minori’s best friend! Can this school year possibly get any worse?!”

Even though I have only watched the first half of Toradora! I felt that I should at least read the manga as well.

Chi’s Sweet Home GN 6:

Plot Synopsis: “Exploring her new surroundings, Chi encounters countless new friends, including another young feline named Cocchi. This new kitty comrade opens up a whole new world for our star. Prior to this encounter she had a mild awareness of what it was like to be a cat. To Chi, she was Chi and the Yamadas were her clan. Now with another one of her kind clearly there, Chi is more willing than ever to accept that a cat’s world is one that she should be and will eventually be a part of.

While on a rare night excursion, our furry heroine reunites with an old friend and is introduced to a world where a whole community of cats of all shapes and sizes congregate in the twilight. This reunion with her mentor Blackie allows Chi to slowly move closer and closer to that long awaited reunion with her own cat family. Even if she is no longer searching for her own original home it is suddenly closer than it’s ever been.”

While I am not a huge cat lover (I’m more of a dog person myself) I find some charm in reading Chi’s Sweet home.  It always seems to lift my mostly depressed spirits when I read it.

Otaku in Review Podcast – Bankruptcy is Bad, Toradora is Good

...especially when Taiga gets angry.

This week we cover general news and goings on. Scott Pilgrim, also known as “that awesome movie that every geek except me has seen,” is apparently awesome (And I really want to see it). Some awesome (or creepy, depending on how you look at it) news in the field of 2D love as we discuss Love Plus + and its use of augmented reality barcodes (whatever that means). Hatsune Miku is jumping overseas with her first U.S. “concert” that of course is on the opposite side of the country.

Drama’s a-brewing with FUNimation again, with what they did with the second ED sequence to My Bride is a Mermaid. Urban Vision might not be doing so hot, or maybe they’re just restructuring as they say? MangaGamer’s having troubles with Koihime Musou, but you should still buy it. NIS America details their upcoming releases of Toradora!, Persona: Trinity Soul, Pandora Hearts, and some generic foxgirl deity show. And the best news of all, MITSUDOMOE SEASON 2! (Scott was not amused by my enthusiasm).

Not all the news was good though, as two companies in Japan recently filed for bankruptcy. Hear our thoughts on this week’s episode.
