Funimation April 2012 Releases

Funimation releases for April have finally been announced and are available for pre-order on RightStuf. I recommend the Fullmetal Alchemist movie. It’s pretty good, if you like Fullmetal Alchemist. April also sees three other new releases, including Black Butler season 2, Okami-san, and Legend of the Legendary Heroes. This is a step up over March, which is kind of barren.

Stuff I Bought This Week – June 10th

Le Chevalier D’Eon Vol. 6

Plot Synopsis: “After subterfuge and sin, the blood-stained Royal Psalms are returned to France and d’Eon’s mission seems complete. Or is it? For traitors still reveal backstabbing loyalties, royals show their true, shocking identities, and horrible secrets are finally confessed. At last, we discover who really killed d’Eon’s sister Lia – and more shockingly, why. But discovery means many will meet their violent demise in this terrifying saga of justice and judgment.”

Got the last volume. Now I have all six. I should probably get around to watching it at some point.

Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles Season 1 (S.A.V.E.)

Plot Synopsis: “On an epic quest across dimensions and time, Syaoran fights to save the soul of his fated love, the princess Sakura. The feathery shards of her shattered memory drift across the universe, floating down on strange lands. With the warrior Kurogane and the wizard Fai, Syaoran gathers the scattered essence of his Sakura’s soul. The journey is one of peril, mystery, and endless possibilities.”

I’ve been mildly interested in Tsubasa for a while. Not entirely sure why. It’s a huge mashup of all of Clamp’s previous work, of which I am almost entirely unfamiliar. But it’s fantasy. And I guess I’ll watch pretty much anything if it’s fantasy. I’m pretty desperate here. Since it’s only like $25 I figured I might as well get it.

Berserk Vol. 18

Plot Synopsis: “Hell has broken loose in the kingdom of Midland. On the death of Midland’s king comes invasion, demonic forces seem to be on the rise, underground pagan cults are running wild, and the church is busily rounding up and teaching heretics the errors of their ways.

While Guts is busy testing out his newly repaired sword on the invaders, his former captain and lover, Casca, her mind wrecked by her unholy tryst with the demon lord, has fallen in with a rough crowd who don’t exactly wish her well. But she, like Guts, is marked with the Brand of Sacrifice, and her abusers may soon find themselves face-to-face with the unholy abominations that are inexorably drawn to the Brand!”

I really like Berserk, as I have mentioned in the past. Still need to get caught up on the manga though. There’s just too many volumes and they take up too much space.

Claymore Vol. 1-3

Plot Synopsis:”A Claymore – a female warrior named for the sword she carries – travels from medieval village to village to destroy Yoma, monsters who disguise themselves as humans and who are almost impossible to kill. Claymores are half-humans, half-demons who willingly transformed themselves by mixing their blood with monster’s blood.

Claire, nicknamed silver-eyed killer, is such a powerful Claymore, she can slay a Yoma using only one hand. But she must constantly struggle to keep from becoming a monster herself.”

I’ve watched a few episodes of the Claymore anime, and really liked it. It’s medieval dark fantasy, and medieval dark fantasy is pretty much the best thing ever. It does have a few problems, namely the amount of time watching people monologue internally about some super cool technique someone is using in a fight. Anyway, since the anime doesn’t cover all of the manga, I know I’ll have to read the manga eventually so I’m starting to buy it now.
