Clannad BD Complete Collection
Plot Synopsis: “Tortured by his past and pained by an uncertain future, Tomoya drifts through life with an almost overwhelming anger and emptiness. But when he meets the mysterious, beautiful, and shy Nagisa, his world seems to change. Drawn in by her gentle but lonely spirit, he begins to experience the joy life can bring. But as he discovers the reason for his newfound friend’s loneliness, Tomoya also finds that life can be frighteningly fragile.”
While I do have the Clannad Complete Collection DVD set, I wanted to get the Blu-ray to see the series in all of its HD glory.

Chi’s Sweet Home GN 7
Plot Synopsis “Chi finds herself in her biggest predicament yet! While exploring her new neighborhood with a new young feline peer, she becomes lost as a downpour has masked the scents she was so heavily relying upon for direction. Confused and hungry, the two decide to hunt around the community for scraps as sustanance. After searching for leftovers and meals left for other unaware pets turns fruitless, Chi and her new friend Cocchi resort to more extreme measures to keep their energy flowing.”
I had pre-ordered this during the last Vertical sale at RightStuf but it came out on Tuesday and even though I am a dog lover I enjoy Chi’s Sweet Home.

Kampfer: Complete Collection DVD:
Plot Synopsis: “Waking up transformed into a beautiful girl might be the stuff of some guys’fantasies, but when the suddenly effeminatized Natsuru is informed by a stuffed tiger that he’s now a Kampfer, a mystical fighter who has to fight other Kampfers in female form, his life becomes a living nightmare!
Putting aside the obvious “plumbing” issues, Natusru’s best childhood friend turns out to swing the other way and SHE has a crush on his new female body. Not complex enough? Natsuru’s school has separate sections for boys and girls, so he and she are now double enrolled. The rumor-mill has it that he’s dating herself. And there are other Kampfers attending the school who want to take her out, and he’s not sure which ones mean “on a date” and which ones mean “permanently.” Oh, and did we mention that some Kampfers use swords and gun?! Hormones, fists, and other body parts will fly as the daring, new gender-blender defender must become a contender or die!”
Rented the series some time ago, enjoyed what little I saw so I saw that Amazon.com had it new for cheap.

Toradora! GN 1:
Plot Synopsis: “Ryuji Takasu has learned the hard way that appearances can be deceiving. Despite his inwardly sweet personality, his unintentionally sharp gaze and aggressive features give him the air of a delinquent thug, putting his chances at making new friends, let alone a girlfriend, next to zero.
It’s Ryuji’s first day in high school and it seems as if things are looking up. He gets to sit in between his only friend, Yusaku, and more importantly, the girl he’s secretly crushing on, Minori Kushieda. But just when he thinks the stars are aligned in his favor, he unwittingly crosses the most feared girl in school, Taiga Aisaku, making her his arch enemy. To top it off, Taiga has moved in right next door to Ryuji and happens to be Minori’s best friend! Can this school year possibly get any worse?!”
Even though I have only watched the first half of Toradora! I felt that I should at least read the manga as well.

Chi’s Sweet Home GN 6:
Plot Synopsis: “Exploring her new surroundings, Chi encounters countless new friends, including another young feline named Cocchi. This new kitty comrade opens up a whole new world for our star. Prior to this encounter she had a mild awareness of what it was like to be a cat. To Chi, she was Chi and the Yamadas were her clan. Now with another one of her kind clearly there, Chi is more willing than ever to accept that a cat’s world is one that she should be and will eventually be a part of.
While on a rare night excursion, our furry heroine reunites with an old friend and is introduced to a world where a whole community of cats of all shapes and sizes congregate in the twilight. This reunion with her mentor Blackie allows Chi to slowly move closer and closer to that long awaited reunion with her own cat family. Even if she is no longer searching for her own original home it is suddenly closer than it’s ever been.”
While I am not a huge cat lover (I’m more of a dog person myself) I find some charm in reading Chi’s Sweet home. It always seems to lift my mostly depressed spirits when I read it.
Manga Review: Twin Spica (Volumes 1-2)
There are many space anime and manga out there in the world. However, not all of them have to do with racially insensitive fighting robots (yes, I’m looking at you G Gundam!). Sometimes, a story about the wonders of space and the people who are passionate about it can be just as engaging and endearing. Don’t believe me? Then let me introduce you to Twin Spica.
Twin Spica is about a group of teenage boys and girls who are attending a space school, with the eventual goal of going into space and exploring whatever may lie there. Specifically, the story centers around a young girl named Asumi. Even though her mother was killed years ago in the aftermath of a botched space mission, it hasn’t dampened her desire to see what lies beyond the planet Earth. However, the people who run the space academy know more about Asumi than perhaps even she knows, and she will need to rely on the friends she makes in school and the mysterious Mr. Lion, a man in a lion suit that only she can seem to see, to help her fulfill her dream of going into space.
The plot is well done and does a great job of giving us background without shoving it down our throats while also holding back enough to make us feel as if there are several important things we don’t know, and driving us to continue reading to find out what those things are. It also gives us a beautiful balance of comedy, drama, and even action and thrills as we watch the characters go through various tests to see if they have what it takes to become astronauts.
The ConBlog: New York Anime Festival 2010
In September 2009, Reed Exhibitions, the company that brings us New York Comic Con (NYCC) and New York Anime Festival (NYAF), announced that in 2010 they would be combining both conventions into one super-huge mega-con. This news was met with mixed reactions. Some were delighted to hear that they would be able to get into both cons with only one admission – two cons for the price of one. Others were fearful that this was basically an excuse to “eliminate” NYAF, and that Reed would end up focusing mostly on the NYCC portion, while NYAF got “shoved into the basement.” Unfortunately, our worst fears came true, and as a result this year’s NYAF was far less enjoyable and far more frustrating.
But before getting into all that, let’s talk about the panels that took place…
The ConBlog: Otakon 2010
Every summer, close to 30,000 otaku gather in Baltimore’s inner harbor area to attend the largest anime convention on the US east coast: Otakon. This year’s “Convention of Otaku Generation” took place from July 30 to August 1. In what turned out to be one of my favorite Otakons thus far, this year’s exhibition sported some awesome panels and special events that made the weekend lots of fun. Without further ado, let’s get to the rundown of what I attended…
