What OtakuAnthony bought this week June 10th
Initial D Stage 3 Movie:
Plot Synopsis: “Anyone can drive fast. Only one driver can be the fastest. It takes nerve, skill, and the right car – and Takumi’s got all three. His rep as a dominating downhill racer is growing, but when he’s invited to drive for an all-star team that could change the face of local racing, Takumi’s got to beat his stiffest competition before he’ll join their ranks: himself.
With graduation approaching, his classmates drift toward uncertain futures. For Takumi, looking ahead means putting as many challengers in his rearview mirror as he can. If he can prove to himself that he’s ready, the next stage is waiting, and it’s all downhill from there.”
I am a fan of the Initial D series and I felt I needed to continue to complete my collection of the Initial D DVD. I do hope to do a series of reviews for the Initial D series in the future.

Soul Eater The Meister Collection Blu-Ray
Plot Synopsis: “Maka is a Meister and Soul is her Weapon. As students at the Grim Reaper’s Death Weapon Meister Academy, their study habits couldn’t be more different. But in battle against the supernatural forces of evil, they’re a freakin’ lethal team.
That’s when Soul transforms – literally – into a razor-sharp scythe, and every defeated wicked soul he sucks down makes him more deadly. That’s when Maka unleashes the merciless slayer within, wielding her partner and dropping monsters. Seriously. Monsters. Like the witches, werewolves, and zombies that lurk in the shadows and feed on the souls of the innocent.
Every freakish ghoul Maka and Soul take out strengthens their bond, and fighting alongside their fellow Meister/Weapon classmates, Maka and Soul are the world’s last line of defense against evil.”
When I rented Soul Eater last year I knew I had to add it to my collection. However I wanted to wait until a cheaper set came out before I added it to my collection and after reading some reviews on the Blu-Ray I decided I had to add this to my collection.

Maid Sama DVD Collection 1
Plot Synopsis: “Getting sent to Seika High School is scary enough if you’re a guy, but now that the notorious former boys’school has gone coed, the unfortunate girls who’ve been enrolled there have only one goal: getting through each day as it comes. But into this untamed and testosterone-filled wilderness comes a girl on a mission, a girl who’s not afraid of any male and is willing to take them on in that most deadly of all arenas: the Student Council!
As Seika’s first-ever female president, Misaki Ayuzawa talks the talk and walks the walk, but after school hours she morphs into something rather different… a waitress at a maid cafe! So when cool, aloof and handsome Usui Takumi discovers Misaki’s secret, things are going to get VERY interesting, very quickly!”
I watched the first few episodes last year when they were airing, but due to some external factors I never got around to finishing the series. When I learned it was coming out on DVD I decided to buy it since I enjoy the manga.

Rosario+Vampire GN 1
Plot Synopsis: “All-around average teenager Tsukune can’t get accepted to any high school save one… but on his first day he finds the rest of the student body doesn’t appear average at all. Best of all, the cutest girl on campus can’t wait to fling he arms around his neck! Wait a sec – are those her teeth around his neck too…?
Tuskune’s going to have one heck of a hickey when he gets home from Monster High! But does he have a chance in H-E-double hockey sticks of raising his grades at a school where the turf war isn’t between the jock and the nerds but the vampires and the werewolves?”
I am not sure why I decided to buy this. I am harem genre fan so maybe that is why. I guess I am just trying to find other shows for me to enjoy.

Antz’Spring 2011 First Impressions: My Ordinary Life, Tiger & Bunny
My Ordinary Life
Plot Synopsis: Can’t really write a synopsis of the plot when there isn’t one. Basically, it’s about a group of high school girls goofing around and doing random stuff. There’s also a professor and her android who also goof around and do random stuff. That’s really the whole thing.
Thoughts: My Ordinary Life is a fairly typical cute girls doing cute stuff series. It’s very reminiscent of Azumanga Daioh, and like Azumanga Daioh it’s all one quick gag after another. Some of them are funny, some aren’t, and some are just weird, but that’s just how it goes when you cram that many simple gags into a single episode. It’s a decent show, but nothing particularly extraordinary or hilarious. If you liked Azumanga Daioh, or Lucky Star, or K-ON!, or any other series where a bunch of girls do silly stuff then this is right up your alley.
Score: 3/5

Tiger & Bunny
Plot Synopsis: “The city of Stern Bild is protected by corporate superheroes known as NEXT, who fight crime while promoting their sponsors on the popular show “HERO TV.” Veteran hero Wild Tiger relies on his years of experience and instincts to fight crime, but his tendency to destroy public property for the sake of protecting the lives of the innocent has earned him the nickname “Crusher for Justice.” Now, under orders from his new employer, Wild Tiger finds himself forced to team up with Barnaby Brooks Jr., a rookie with an attitude.”
Thoughts: Tiger and Bunny does a few things that I find kind of interesting. One of those things is the way it addresses the idea of super heroes. Creating a world where super heroes are a commodity, a spectacle that exists to entertain people while saving lives at the same time is really interesting, and I like the way they handled it. Making a game show out of crime fighting does kind of trivialize it , but I like that it’s essentially a world that treats super heroes the same way we do: as something that exists to entertain us. There is an absurd amount of advertising within the actual episode, with company logos plastered on the heroes, but they do attempt to incorporate it into the show by having all of the heroes sponsored by different companies. It is blatant advertising, but at least they had the decency to actually do something with it.
There are a couple problems with it though. The CGI is pretty mediocre most of the time. There’s also a horribly stereotypical gay character who makes a very brief appearance in the episode. The series does still show promise though.
Score: 4/5

Manga Review: Kimi ni Todoke (Volumes 1-2)
All of us have had that awkward period in our grade school years where we didn’t quite fit in, and were looking for a way to make friends and feel comfortable amidst all that we go through growing up. Kimi ni Todoke starts off portraying this beautifully, but winds up taking these themes to an almost annoying extreme.
The story centers around an awkward girl named Sawako Kuronuma, who is referred to as “Sadako” by her classmates because of her striking resemblance to the character of the same name from the Ringu movie series. Every time she tries to greet people, she comes off looking creepy, and her fellow students are convinced that she is possessed, has ghosts following her around, and can curse people just by having them look into her eyes. She is pained by her loneliness, and the only reprieve from that pain comes in the form of Shota Kazehaya, the most popular and handsome boy in school who also happens to be a downright nice guy, as he treats Sawako like any other person. As she gets to know him and his words help her gain more confidence, she begins to fall for him, unaware that Kazehaya himself has been interested in her for quite some time, and just isn’t able to voice how he feels.
Manga Review: 20th Century Boys (Volumes 1-4)
The beginning of the story of 20th Century Boys will sound familiar and rather common to most of you: A bunch of young boys get together, build a fort, and make up a story about evil trying to destroy the world and how they will go on to be heroes and save the Earth themselves someday. However, the story quickly takes a surprising turn that shoots the story forward into something downright glorious.
Our main character, Kenji, is just living his life as an owner of a convenience store when he receives news that one of his childhood friends, Donkey, has committed suicide. In connection with the death, Kenji stumbles upon a symbol that he remembers creating with his friends as a kid. He thinks nothing of it, but suddenly Donkey’s death starts looking more suspicious when the different stories of evil deeds that he and his friends came up with as kids start happening for real all around the world. The people committing these crimes are donning the symbol he and his friends came up with, and they claim to be led by someone they only refer to as “Our Friend.” Believing that one of his childhood friends has to be this mysterious leader, he starts seeking out the others whom were involved in their childhood fantasy gone awry in an attempt to stop the madness.
